Calamities
The Oesterbaai Engineers calamities team is on standby 24 hours
a day, 365 days a year to take action in the event of an asbestos
calamity. The team has a number of vehicles
which are fully equipped for calamities.
Fires in particular – but also explosions, storm damage and water
damage – can disperse asbestos particles in the surrounding area.
In this case it is of vital importance to act quickly and
effectively: initially to guarantee the safety of
bystanders, but also to prevent the further spread
of asbestos (secondary contamination).
Oesterbaai Engineers takes air sample readings, determines the
nature and volume of the asbestos that has been released, closes
off the contaminated area and immediately provides
a plan of action and organises decontamination by a
certified asbestos decontamination
company.
The calamities manager is standing by 24 hours a day to provide
advice on location to relief workers, environmental authorities and
municipalities. After the initial relief action, parties can
immediately proceed to deal with subsequent stages
of the calamity.
